POT

I am very excited about the debate on Wednesday! This is going to be a good time.

Smoking

I really enjoyed this movie. I feel that it gave a real life representation of what goes on behind the scenes. Really is one sin any worse than another. NO! I was also impressed with the way the movie manipulated words to make the "bad" stuff good. This was a movie I would definitely watch again!

End of term

I am ready for this term to be over. I am really tired of my CIS 105 and I have had enough Math for one semester. I love when a teacher tells you they WILL put the Math formula on the test for you and they "forget" and also there will be extra credit on the test and that also magically fell of the test. I guess the copy machine missed that part of the exam. To top it off I just LOVE when the professor takes her frustration out on the whole class. Why should the over achievers be punished for the FUCK OFFS who do not care about grades or school!! Yes I am a little MAD! I am to the point I am ready to just transfer to Penn State! FUCK HACC and the majority of the professors who care nothing about the students who really want to learn.

Christmas!

My children have ruined their own Christmas! Some may say what I did was mean; I say what they did was mean!! I came home from a night of pure hell with my children and ripped open the new WII I purchased along with the 4 extra games I bought on Black Friday! I did this right in front of them and told them both this was your Christmas and now I am taking it back. Tonight I drove them with me as I returned everything to the stores. I know it sounds harsh, yet I have no bad feelings about it. My children also know that Santa is not real so they will not be disappointed on Christmas when they realize the lump of coal came from their mother!

Black Friday!

My favorite day is creeping up fast! By far Black Friday is the best day of the year! I carefully plan out an agenda! Without sleep I leave my house around 10pm and do not return until I just can not go anymore. I have no idea what I am going for this year. I would like to get a new computer, but the lines at Best Buy are insane. People actually go there early Thursday to be first in line to get the deal of the year. To all of my fellow Black Friday lovers be safe and have fun!

Analysis paper

I did some deep research into gender roles in advertising. I was shocked to find out that most models today are more than 15% under-weight. I understand the health effects of being overweight but being that much underweight is not healthy either. Some of the research I found also showed how the "super-model" image effects young girls and causes them to have low self esteem and that can eventually lead to eating disorders. It is nice to see some companies stepping up and recognizing that all women are not built the same and beauty is not necessarily weighing 100lbs.

My weekend!

This weekend my oldest baby turned 9! After sitting back and really thinking about it I can not figure out where the time went. He has changed so much! I was shuffling through some pictures I came across some pics of him when he was only a toddler. To look at him now he is so mature and really turning into a nice young man. Friday night he went to his first concert with his Nan and Pap. He got to see Styx in concert. He had no idea what was instore for him and when he called to tell me he was through the roof with excitment. Last year for his birthday we lived in Atlanta and my one friends husband gave us awesome seats to the Bears and Falcons game at Georgia Dome. Again that was a surprise! He loves da Bears! Hopw am I going to beat all of that for next year?

Class tomorrow!

I am excited to look at my groups new work! We should all have well put together drafts so we can analyze each other and give positive criticism. On the other hand Argument papers are not my favorite. So now we have to get on boat. I will say I LOVE research papers. I am ready for our first 7-10 page assignment.

Mid term

I can not believe it is already time for midterm evaluations. I am only in my 2nd semester at HACC and it is going by so quickly. I am very pleased with my class selections and how my semester is going. Before you know it I will be at Penn State starting my Student Teaching curriculum. What an exciting time in a persons life! I am accomplishing more now with all of my other duties than I could have ever imagined!

Stress

Speaking in class was an easy way to analyze the book F451. The time came for me to write my paper and I seemed to have a writers block. We discussed so many ideas and putting it all down on paper was a struggle. There were so many good ideas and how do you pick just one. I choose to write about what the books actually symbolised. I am hoping to have an awesome presentation and think I will keep every ones focus.

Burning Bright

The conclusion to F451 was not at all what I expected or maybe it was not what I needed. Montag burning his own house and Beatty, running from the law, and taking up residence on the railroad tracks was not the ending I was looking for. I wanted to see Montag do something spectacular with his desire and passion for reading and knowledge. Well we can just hope Bradbury decides to write a sequel or maybe I should call a Hollywood producer and create my own story. LOL!
When Montag burned his own house I was a little surprised by that and then again I was not. He was not happy and when Millie left him all alone, burning the house was a way for him to have a little closure. When the Beatty turned on Montag I felt that coming. Then Montag burned him down. It was a bitter sweet ending to all of Beatty's head games with Montag.
Another shocker was the hound did not inject enough poison into Montag to kill him. He had to fend the dog off. The way the book portrayed the hound made it seem like it was a perfect robotic creature. Montag was really driven mentally and physical to beat the hound with fire. After he destroyed that hound he ran away with his poisoned leg. His quick thinking lead him to Faber and there they came up with a plan to get Montag out of the city. The clothing switch and advise Faber delivered helped Montag make it across the river and to the rail tracks which eventually lead him to the men who understood him. Once the men welcomed him they set off on a journey and Montag slowly started to remember the book of Ecclesiastes. Shorly after the city was destroyed and the men headed back towards the city. Montag may have felt he really fit in after all. Many opportunities for learning and reading were ahead.

My new path

Recently I have decided to change my major. I looked into all of my options and realized the HACC program was not a good fit. After thinking long and hard about all of my choices I decided to go into elementary education. I enjoy working with children and I have always volunteered with my childrens teachers. I had a meeting at Penn State and I feel like I am on the right path to happiness. I also took advice from a few people in my life that I respect very much! Thanks to them I have many doors opening up to me. All of these new opportunities are showing me that I am on the right path. I have never been more sure of anything in my life. I an now dual enrolled in HACC and Penn State. This is a journey I have waited to long to take. I am hoping this path leads me to success! I am looking forward to all of the changes that will be taking place in my life over the next few semesters.

Class on Monday! :-)

I was very happy to see the extremely rude, and disrespectful student dismissed from class. The constant disrespect towards the proffesor and lack of participation is childish and immature. Just as much as she pays for this class so do the other 27 students. We are here to learn and should not have to deal with those kind of interuptions. Welcome to college my fellow students. It is time to grow up or get out!

after thought

As I continue to think about this last section of the book I was wondering if Clarisse was a set up. Beatty referred to the conversation between Guy and Clarisse as if he was there. Could this have been a setup from Beatty to test Guy? Did the mechanical dog lead Beatty to think that Guy had books? Maybe Clarisse was moved around to test people and she is really not dead after all! The reason I thought of this is because she stated that she moved from another city and lived with her uncle. It might be a conspiracy!

The saga continues!

This chapter really grabbed my attention!! When he talked about Faber it made me think of Clarisse. I began to wonder how many people in this society really felt good about books and wanted to be able to read them. The meeting of Guy and Faber was very mysterious in the park. It seemed so long ago, did Guy in his subconscious know then he really wanted to know about books? He met Faber before he knew Clarisse so why didn't he turn Faber in.

Faber is a really secretive, handy man. With no "TV" he works on his little experiments. After the talk between Faber and Guy he introduces the earpiece shell so they can comunnicate back and forth. I feel like this has given Guy to much confidence and has mad him "cocky" which led to him unplugging the "TV" and reading to the ladies. In doing this he exposed himself and his wife to having books. Mildred tried to cover for them it seemed to work. The woman that was crying, after Guy read the poem, is another character I feel that may understand and want books. The powerful words he read outloud hit her heart in ways that nothing else may have ever done.

After this Guy has gone to work. He played his part in handing the book over to Beatty. Then Beatty ramble on to Guy with Faber listening and using books to back up his opion. What intregued me was the different quotes he used from different books. Guy thought Beatty believed he only had one book. Beatty knew otherwise as you find out in the end of the chapter where they end up at a fire call in front of Guys house. The Beatty lets on that he dropped hints to Guy by sending the mechanical dog out. He was using this dog as a scare tactic. It did not work, or did it? Then I am wondering if Guy hid the books outside are there still books inside? Maybe Guy really knew this was eventually going to happen.

Did Mildred do it? Was she that embarassed by the way Guy was acting infront of her friends and "family" that she finaly had enough and wanted to put a stop to it! I think it might have been her. She herself might have been scared her neighbors were going to call in on them (as husband and wife having books and reading together) and if she called in she would not be punished. I do not care for Mildred and the way she does not care for her husband.

And now the biggest question of all is should I keep reading? I do not want to and ruin ideas and thoughts that may come up in discussion this week. So like most of you I will will be wondering and doing my best not to continue on in this journey! Happy Reading to ALL!

My week!

This week has really made me feel like a good student. In high school I did not work to my potential and really wasted a lot of peoples time. Now I am older and have taken a long look at my life. I want to do something important. In order to do that I have taken school seriously. I try to work hard and go above and beyond on my assignments. At times I really feel like I am taking valuable time from my family yet, I know I am doing this for them. I worked almost 10 hours on a Nutrition assignment and received a 100%! I am happy with this because I am earning this grade on my own. Hard work does pay off and this just reassures my feelings. I am looking forward to graduating with (at least) a 3.8. I do not want to say 4.0 and let myself down.
I hope everyone has enjoyed his/her week and look forward to discussion tomorrow!

F451

As I started reading the book I was not really intrigued. Then I continued to read(becuase I had too LOL) and it started to peak my interest. How could a world with out random books be real? Then it all started to unfold. A writier can never appeal to all audiences. As the book portrays, many "minorities" can be offended. This is where our freedom comes into play; freedom allows us to pick what we read so we do not have to be offended.

lit narrative

I seemed to find myself in our recent writing. Looking back on my edeucation I can see milestones that really played a huge role in the way I look at education. I never really enjoyed school but, now I am really finding myself wanting to learn. In my writings I have found a way to find myself. Reflection on the past teaches and shows you where you came from and can shine a light on your future. Your future does not always have to follow your past. Looking back and looking forward you can see things you may want to change or even keep the same. Either way it shows you who you are.

Rainy day

Today I am trying to catch up on a weeks worth of homework. Lots and lots of reading and writing to do. I am glad it is raining, I do not feel like I am missing anything in the outside world.

writing from the darkness

This small reading from the story was very moving. You can look at your own life and be thankful for what you have. Today people can be different and express themselves with less ridicule from the outside world. Yes, I know there will always be people judging and disagreeing with your feelings but, it is still okay for you to feel the way you do and express yourself. I could not imagine living in a time where you were teased and tormented for being different. I am glad that in today's society freedom of expression is so important.

What should be taught at colleges?

I agreed with the article. I am a student at Hacc and pay my money to learn and get an education. I want to have all of the skills I need to join the work force. The thought of schools padding classes and not teaching students what is needed causes a serious problem. If you are in a math class you are expected to be taught just that! So if you are in an English class shouldn't you learn all of the fundementals? Yes a paper is mostly about content but, if you can not properly use the English language then you are really not learning.

What is a good paper? A good paper consists of many elements; the basic three elements of a good writing are the topic, audience, and purpose. The topic is what the paper is about. Once the topic has been established keeping ideas clear and organized will help the audience reading understand your topic. The audience is your reader. Writers need to have a purpose. There are many reasons on why to write a paper: persuading, telling something, describing, informing, and so on. By writing a unified and coherent paper all of these elements tie together. A story will then become clear to the reader what it is about and why the author feels the way he/she does. A good paper will keep a readers attention and leave them wanting more.
On the other hand, a bad paper lacks in some or all of the basic writing elements. A paper may have a topic but not be clear or focused on what is about. The information supporting the purpose for why the writer is writing may be vague or lack enough variety to keep the readers full attention. Having the same kind of sentence structure repeating tends to bore a reader and causes them to lose interest: short sentences, long sentences, and semicolon sentences. Duplicating information over and over and over is a good way to have a weak paper. Not having strong information and good language can make a writer look uneducated and cause a reader to not have interest in the writing. Bad writing usually misses many basic and key elements to writing a good reader friendly paper.

My first Blog ever!!

Hi everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself since I missed the first day of class. My name is Martha and I am in my 2nd semester here at Hacc. My major changes one day to the next. Right now I am on the Dental Hygienist kick. I am a full time student and also got my first job in 9 years today. I went to a CNA class over the summer and I figured that would get me back into the swing of work. I have been a mom for the last 9 years and I wanted to do something for me. I am very happy to be back in school. I am looking forward into sharing a great semester with all of you!!
GOOD LUCK and happy writing!!
